Take a pic of the current setup. Someone may have an idea how to mod it from the pics

You could try a panio hinge. Its the same setup thats there at the mo but its alot longer. If it spaned the lenght or most of the length of the lid it should spread the load and stop pulling out

You could change the hinges to a bonnet/boot style hinge that would mean you could fix it to the lid and bolt it to the tray. Means you would have to unbolt it at the tray to remove/refit but it would last longer than screws being taken in and out all the time

When I worked for Toyota and was fitting hard lids to brand new lux's the had a system that was two peices of steel as each hinge, one was in the shape of an L and side that stuck up was only about 15mm high and had a slot cut into it about 5mm high from were the fold was, the other piece was also in a L shape but cut down to fit inside the slot. I'm pretty sure this will confuse the hell out of you so I'll try and do a drawing for you soon. :D

So basically they get mounted to the tray and hardlid, and when you want to fit the lid you tilt the lid up 90 degrees and slot the top hinge into the bottom hinge slot and then tilt it back down and close it, they work as a hinge but come off by just tilting it 90 degrees and pulling it out.

Does that all make sense?

Yeh they seem to, they were good enough for brand new trucks off the show room floor, but put a rubber seal around the lid aswell so it puts a little tension on the hinges so they don't rattle around, and it also makes it reasonably water proof too.

only problem i cn c is when the lid is lifted up the piece on the tray will hit the hardlid(like in my flash drawing),mayb put a piece of rubber or foam behind it,will c how it turns out. ;)

cheers
