Gas bottles for welding

Postby luxxingout » Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:44 pm

Does anyone know places in the lower north island that will fill a owner CO2 gas bottle rather than having to rent one off BOC?
Just dicing up whether I should/can buy one and get it refilled or have to rent one and have to get a contract and pay the monthly rental fee regardless of whether I am using it or not
And if I am going to go down the renting path then how much more is it to get Argoshield than CO2?
Any help would be appreciated

Im not sure if any places do your own bottles anymore Im pretty sure they have all gone to rentals. If you get a D sized bottle (the smallest) its just under $1.00 a day to rent from memory and about $60 to fill with argosheild. Personally I would use Argo unless your a mint welder and have good conditions its just alot cleaner and easier to use.

Ring BOC or Air liquide and ask about different options man.

Or maybe someone can use their engineering perks and let you use one for free....? :?

Okay sweet as, I've only used argoshield but got told you could use CO2 so that's why I'm asking
Seems like rented bottle is the go then, just gotta buy a welder first :D

I used co2 on a smaller welder years ago, ended up being a bit more expensive because of the style of bottle etc that I was using but there was nothing wrong with it, although I do prefer the argo on my big welder. Personal preferance I guess :D

is there any reason why you can't use a co2 bottle from a paintball gun? You own it and it's easily refillable (around 5 bucks a pop at hunting and fishing and actual paintball war game businesses etc)

Yeha thats what I used, the only place I knew to fill/exchange them was farmers and it was 20 bucks a time which made it more expensive.

Oh yeah, I ended up buying a 6kg co2 bottle with the welder
Worst comes to worst if I can't find someone in wellington to do it then I'll take it to where the welding shop takes theirs in palmy.

I'm not sure of their name. I was just gonna call techweld up (where I got the welder) and ask what the refill place is called
You could give them a call and find out?

Anyone know the difference between an owner bottle and rental bottle from BOC? and if BOC can identify between any of thier bottles?

I have a rental bottle that doesn't seem to have any markings that I can tell other than a sticker saying BOC and Argoshield, my rental account isn't quite up to date and I need to fill my bottle :? Supagas can fill it if its an owner bottle but I don't know if they can tell the difference.
